Music and Dance with London Syria Summer School

Our international team return to London Syria School to create music and dance for well-being and to learn English together with young Syrian, Iraqi and Afghani refugees recently arrived to the UK from war-zones

This august, our fantastic team of music facilitators from around the world will inspire 40 young refugees affected by war & conflict, learning and creating songs inspired by the young peoples’ tastes, hopes, and this year’s theme – Rivers of Kindness.

Among them, singer and professional Dabke workshop leader, Shahd Abusalama of Hawiyya Dabke dance company, joins us to establish dance as part of the project for the first time!

Joining her is Manchester based ‘Adz’ – our supreme beatboxing talent from Damascus – with our first time working with prodigious lyricist and Iranian MC, Farhood, to inspire creativity among an older group of young people.

Our team will join staff and volunteers at Newman College, who are dedicating four weeks to support the well-being and education of young refugees now living in London.

It’s always hard to predict what will happen when Music Action International facilitators unlock the raw energy, talent and potential of young people at the Summer School.

Our facilitator Noga, has picked out a few tunes that give a clue about where things might start, but probably not where they’ll end up! 🙂 …

This incredible partnership with the Syria Summer School is a great step forward to supporting more young refugees to overcome trauma, build happiness, and believe in a brighter future, through music.
