Bosnia-Hercegovina: Inspiration for our Times

Our Creative Director Lis Murphy lived and worked in Bosnia-Hercegovina following the conflict there which ended in 1996. Inspired by the young people living there and experiencing first hand the power of music to overcome war trauma and connect people across ethnic, cultural and religious divides, Lis returned home and set up Music Action International to support people affected by war, torture and armed conflict.

Beyond Culture was our first international project, delivering music and dance sessions to young people from all over Bosnia-Herzegovina. We then delivered a structured training programme for local musicians and dancers with Musicians without Borders, to support women survivors from the Srebrenica massacre, still living in IDP camps in Tuzla, having lost husbands and sons.

We will be recruiting volunteers to work with amazing locally led organisation Firefly, based in Brcko, Bosnia-Hercegovina. Sign up to our E-news for more details
