Intern Joel Taylor had a chat with our new Harmonise Facilitator, Faz Shah, about life, music and working at Music Action International: “It is so rewarding to work with young refugees and other children through music, to enable them to settle into their new life in the UK and give them direction and hope for the future.”
The show, a unique collaboration between the refugee torture survivor collective and puppet theatre company, Box Tale Soup, was first performed at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, in 2016. The show has received wonderful reviews from the audience and has had a positive impact on their perceptions of refugees, inspiring empathy and action.
Towards the end of the 2016/17 school year, our Harmonise project reached eight schools across London and Greater Manchester over three weeks.
Harmonise aims to develop pupils’ understanding of the different cultures in their school, and to support the engagement of recently arrived refugee pupils.
